Can Doctors in the Military (specifically the army) carry guns?

If your a physician can you carry a gun…i know that chaplains aren’t allowed to but what about doctors ?

Doctors and chaplains are allowed to carry firearms if they choose to do so. Doing so removes their noncombatant status. For example a doctor carrying a weapon cannot also wear the Red Cross armband.

Given the types of people the US military tends to fight – a smart doctor would carry a weapon as that red cross armband would be ignored by the enemy.
