The very best Childrens Portrait Professional Photographer inside greater london that can be identified

A child’s portrait really should be a simple one. Fuss-free, unhurried and quite often unplanned! I have got three sons. I should understand!

I am not much of a huge lover for studio-based children’s portraits. Although you may get brilliant results, this can be regarded as a big demand to count on a child to stay still and pose when what they want to do is unplug your lighting and topple over cameras! I also feel that maybe the final images could be a bit artificial, even if you have managed to coax your child towards staying still for around 10 seconds and staring in the vague direction of the lens!

In my opinion, the finest children’s portraits come to pass whilst they are chipper inside an environment that they feel at ease in without vinyl backdrops, towering soft boxes and loose wires to fall over. Aim for natural reportage photography with the smallest amount of poses and goofy smiles!

My 1st choice is the security of a child’s family home. It is their personal environment, it is suitable and it is where they’re likely to be most content. I always meet up with families prior to the day of the actual photo session. This is an ideal opportunity to review the place and build up a relationship with all those concerned. It’s a very worthwhile time commitment to help you arrange a fun and relaxed session. Well that’s the plan!

My set up is pretty minimal. I will use the maximum amount of natural light as possible with a Lastolite Tri-flector and if need be, an off camera speedlight (or 2) within a Lastlolite Ezybox. I prefer prime lenses (Nikkor f1.4 50mm and an f1.8 85mm. They’re quick and provide greater image quality over zooms but the downside means you will need to move around a lot more to frame up. In case a child is extremely lively I then might revert for the hard working f2.8 24-70mm!

An additional location worth taking into consideration is the local park, preferably one the child is familiar with. With the exception of wet weather or intense cold conditions it really doesn’t matter what the time of year or light. I happen to be lucky enough to live near to some outstanding parks, Dulwich, Battersea and Peckham Rye Park. They supply quite contrasting environments and I adore the wild spots that are now typically reserved allowing the long grass and natural fauna to flourish. The best season has to be autumn as the golden sunlight enhances the beautiful colours of the fallen foliage carpeting the grass and the slight mounds formed by the breeze clustering them together.

If you live within a shortish journey to the coastline, then my next option would need to be a beach. Sand and kids go together like Marmite on hot toast! Regrettably the camera is not quite as enamoured with sand, so breezy days at the beach are a no go. Yet what could be as cool as the bluish green ocean as a background coupled with shimmering sands, high cliffs, rugged rocks and huge boulders? It does not even have to be a empty beach either and another of my favourite areas is bustling Brighton featuring its famous piers (one just a burnt out wreck) and some really stunning areas, that make it a really exceptional location.

As you can imagine the 3 locations above aren’t the only ones and there are several alternate choices like a woodland, a gorgeous meadow, farmyards, adventure playgrounds etc. Essentially the most crucial thing is the child is relaxed and secure and able to provide you with some terrific photographs.
